The Winding wheel was commissioned by The National Cycle Network. The path follows the Railway line designed by Stephenson, famous for the Rocket . The winding wheel is on the former site of a huge winding engine designed to haul carriages up the hill. The sculpture acts as a bike rack as well as a picnic table and has wheelchair access.
The sculpture can be visited any time of year the trail stretches from the Canterbury to Whitstable
