Beecholme Estate in Hackney has just unveiled a brand new work of art – to be used by local residents.

Inspired by the surrounding landscape and handcrafted from natural materials, the outdoor furniture will be a focal point of the estate for residents to meet, talk and relax in their environment.

The bespoke, curvaceous six seater seat, hand crafted in heavy sections of larch created by renown. sculptor Tim Norris, was greeted with admiration and delight by local residents and Councillor Linda Kelly.

David White, local resident and Secretary of the Beecholme Estate Tenants and Residents, said: “The quality of our visual environment directly affects our quality of life. Practical works of art like this repay us many times over and in many ways, not least the fostering of estate “ownership” and care in residents…

This piece of commissioned artwork will look great for decades to come – and with two smaller but similarly curved, sculpted satellite I, enches at adjacent and opposite corners of the green (set within a coordinated bed planting design) still to come, form the central flowing design feature in what will be a truly lovely place to sit and enjoy the grounds…

Neehara Wijeyesekera, Head of Tenancy and Leasehold Services at Hackney Homes, said: “We are pleased to work with Beecholme Estate on this initiative and we are pleased that residents will have a fantastic piece of art right on their doorstep.”
